Tips for Getting the Most Out of your Yoga Class

Below are a few tips to get the most out of your yoga practice. 

·        Arrive a few minutes early.  Give yourself a few minutes of time to decompress from the traffic, your workday, etc. ·        TURN OFF your wireless devices –and don’t put them on vibrate.  If you can’t take 1-2 hours for yourself, this is a signal of an imbalance in your life. ·        Avoid wearing perfume.  Perfume can be offensive to your neighbors on the mat.·        Practice on an empty stomach.  Many say you shouldn’t eat at least two hours before practice.  Though for most, a light snack such as fruit, a nutrition bar (under 250 calories) or yogurt (at least 45 minutes prior to the start of class) should be fine.  ·        Your yoga practice is about you!  Keep your eyes on your own practice and abandon your competitive mindset.  Remember, accidents happen when you’re not paying attention.·        Be okay with where you are in a pose.  Yoga introduces us to a realm of physcial and mental limitations.  We all have them.  Some of them may be familiar to you while others crop-up for the first time in the midst of class.  Learn to accept and view your limitations as opportunities to grow and expand your body, mind and life.·        Smile.  ·        Don’t be shy.  If you have a question about a pose or something you experienced during class, ask the teacher when class is over.
